The Alphabet Journey From A to Reading and Writing

We are glad to share here the vision for what could become the second book in your Elementary Education Explorer series.

The first phase was:

Book 1: My Alphabet Adventure (Aa–Zz), which consisted of

  • Letter recognition

  • Beginning sounds

  • Vocabulary

  • Reading simple sentences

  • Writing practice

  • Character building

Now you're naturally moving to:

Book 2: My Phonics Adventure

This is exactly how many strong literacy programs progress, and we are glad we are building this for you - Teachers, Elementary Students, and Home Educators. A gradual move from A to the very act of reading and writing.

My Suggested Sequence

I would organize the phonics lessons from the easiest to the most advanced.

Unit 1 – Long Vowel Teams

  1. /ee/

  2. /ea/

  3. /ai/

  4. /ay/

  5. /oa/

  6. /oe/

  7. /ow/ (snow)

  8. /ew/

Unit 2 – Magic E (Silent e)

  1. a-e (flame)

  2. i-e (mice)

  3. o-e (stone)

  4. u-e (cube)

  5. e-e (these)

Unit 3 – R-Controlled Vowels

  1. /ar/

  2. /er/

  3. /ir/

  4. /ur/

  5. /or/

  6. /ear/

Unit 4 – Diphthongs

  1. /oi/

  2. /oy/

  3. /ou/

  4. /ow/ (cow)

  5. /au/

  6. /aw/

Unit 5 – Consonant Digraphs

  1. /ch/

  2. /sh/

  3. /th/

  4. /wh/

  5. /ph/

  6. /ck/

  7. /ng/

Unit 6 – Special Letter Patterns

  1. /igh/

  2. /kn/

  3. /wr/

  4. /mb/

  5. /tch/

  6. /dge/

  7. /soft c/

  8. /soft g/

I would keep EXACTLY the same lesson format.

Every sound lesson would contain:

1. Learning Focus Poster

Example:

/ou/ is for Outstanding Sounds!

Today we will learn:

  • the /ou/ sound

  • read /ou/ words

  • read simple sentences

  • practice spelling

  • Write the sound

2. Meet the Sound Poster

What is the /ou/ sound?

How do we pronounce it?

Listen...

Repeat...

3. Featured Words Chart

20 carefully selected words.

4. Reading Sentences Poster

10 engaging sentences.

5. Practice Exercises

Circle

Match

Fill in the blanks

Read

Write

Sentence building

6. Phonics Activity Page

Games

Sorting

Coloring

Word hunt

Then comes our vision for the future:

Book 3

Sight Words

Book 4

Reading Fluency

Book 5

Grammar for Young Learners

Book 6

Creative Writing for Kids

Book 7

Reading Comprehension

Book 8

Spelling Skills

Now you can clearly see we're building a complete early literacy curriculum.

This is something teachers, homeschooling families, private schools, and tutoring centers could all use because it follows a logical progression from letters → sounds → words → sentences → reading → writing.

Make sure you subscribe and follow the journey.
